		<description>What I find interesting in the Outfit the Helm discussion is that only Garmin correctly proposes dual autopilots and pumps, which is a given for an ocean crossing trawler. Hand steering for days on end, especially in heavy weather,  can quickly exhaust a crew, given that you often can&#039;t deviate your course on a long passage to make it easier on the helm. 

For coastal cruising, one AP is just fine.

While my boat has a mix of Furuno and Simrad, and I have no Garmin equipment except on my dink, I thought the Garmin proposal was closest to the mark for a serious passagemaker. 

The Simrad and Furuno proposals, IMHO, were only appropriate for a coastal cruiser.</description>
