The first Kadey-Krogen 52′ arrived in the U.S. in time for the recent Seattle Boat Show and made her public debut there. The timing was so tight that the Kadey-Krogen team hadn’t had a chance to really begin the commissioning process, so in many of these photos you will see a fairly bare interior. I happen to like seeing it like this since I can use my imagination to decorate and outfit to my own taste.

Some things to notice:

  • The fabulous galley, including the Viking range and oven. I need to invite my superyacht chef friend Victoria Allman to come and play in this lovely workspace.
  • The office space below decks, which, in this two-stateroom configuration, really opens up the lower area with a functional, flexible area for work, navigation planning, and normal household management chores.
  • The expansive helm/dash setup. There’s room here for multiple big-screen displays so you can take advantage of all the latest technology, including monitoring, networked navigation and other sensors, and provide redundancy and flexibility. There is also plenty of room for two helm chairs; a feature I really like for longer passages.
  • The engine room has lots of space in which to work, especially with the standard single John Deere 6068AFM75, a continuous duty 231hp engine. Plenty of lighting and sturdy grab rails make those regular engine room checks underway more comfortable and safer.

Kadey-Krogen has released the first photos of the nearly complete first Krogen 52′, which should be leaving the factory shortly by ship in time (hopefully) to make its debut at Seattle’s Lake Union Boats Afloat Show September 14.  This all-new design shows classic Krogen lines in a raised pilothouse model.  There’s no mistaking what company this yacht is from.  It’s a bluewater passagemaker and liveaboard yacht intended to meet the full-time needs of a couple or family.  Enjoy the photos and if you get to the Boats Afloat Show, let us know what you think!  Failing that, we may see hull #2 at the Fort Lauderdale Trawler Fest in early February next year.

Kadey-Krogen Yachts said today that hull number one of the new Krogen 52′ line has been released from its mold.  Krogen 5201 will be a single engine vessel with hydraulic bow and stern thrusters.  The new yacht is scheduled to be delivered sometime this summer.

There’s a lot to like about this slightly smaller version of the Krogen 58′.  We have written about the new boat before here on OceanLines.  You can see all the photos at the Kadey-Krogen website here.

More Details on New Krogen 52

Kadey-Krogen yesterday released more details of its newest trawler, the Krogen 52′, which we first reported on here. It’s decidedly a classic Krogen trawler, with its raised pilothouse and 3,000 nm range at about 7 knots. It shares many of the features of its bigger sister, the Krogen 58′.

The main-deck galley is “Iron Chef”-equipped (my term) with a full-size Jennair fridge and a Viking range. It also has a weather-tight Dutch door with direct access to the starboard walkway. The stairs up to the pilothouse are on the portside and feature household-standard size risers and treads. The pilothouse on the 52′ accommodates dual helm chairs.

The yacht offers either a two- or three-cabin arrangement, with the master stateroom forward or amidships. Kadey-Krogen says those opting for a two-cabin arrangement will enjoy the utility of a large, dedicated office space. Both configurations include two heads with enclosed stall shower.

The company says the boat is being offered in both single- and twin-engine configurations. The hull design will feature Kadey-Krogen’s counter-faired keel, pioneered on the Krogen 58′, which imparts a counter-rotation to water flowing into the propeller, canceling some of the propeller-induced water rotation and resulting in straighter water outflow and improved forward thrust, which implies better fuel economy than that of conventional keel designs, according to Kadey-Krogen.

In the specs table below you can see that the engine options are from John Deere, with the single 6068AFM75 offering a continuous duty (M1) rating of 231 hp.  The company said tooling will be complete by late fall this year and first delivery is planned for summer 2011. The companysays it took a “more grassroots approach and contacted current owners to see if they were interested in the project,” says Larry Polster, vice president of Kadey-Krogen Yachts. “We also took a set of plans to Trawler Fest in Fort Lauderdale and within ten days of initial exposure, the first five hulls were reserved.”

Kadey-Krogen Offering New Krogen 52′ Trawler

New Kadey-Krogen 52' Trawler Rendering

New Kadey-Krogen 52' Trawler Rendering

Kadey-Krogen Yachts today, in a monthly newsletter to clients and interested followers, casually mentions that it is offering an entirely new model, the Krogen 52′. As you can see from the profile rendering above, the new trawler is definitely a Kadey-Krogen, with the tall, ship-like bow, classic pilothouse amidships, and rectangular portholes in the hull. In size, the new model fits nearly in the middle between the 48′ and 55′ Expedition.

In the newsletter, Kadey-Krogen says that it began discussing the boat with potential customers at the recent Trawler Fest in Fort Lauderdale, and that five hulls are already reserved. That should mean that construction on hull #1 should begin soon. I have heard from industry sources that the company will likely announce more details of the new Krogen 52′ soon, perhaps as early as the end of this week. I expect at that time we’ll have the initial specs for our readers, as well as some more light shed on the design particulars and features of the yacht.

Any way you look at it, this is a good sign for the industry. It means there are buyers out there for the right products.
