2010 Miami International Boat Show and Strictly Sail

Kadey-Krogen said this week that it will have a Krogen 58′ and the 48′ North Sea with the redesigned galley and bridge, which we wrote about here on OceanLines recently.

P.A.E. advises that their final plans for the upcoming Miami boat shows include the 75 EYF and the 62 at Collins Ave., — more formally know as The Yacht and Brokerage Show in Miami Beach.  They also plan to have a 47 over at the on-water display of the actual Miami International Boat Show and Strictly Sail at the Sea Isle Marina in Miami.

At this point, Selene does not appear to have a boat at the show, although the Selene Annapolis dealer will be there and Jet Tern Marine owner and chief designer Howard Chen will be attending to accept an award from MotorBoating Magazine.

We will update you over the next week with the plans of other passagemaking boat builders.  If you use the official website for the boat show, don’t rely on the search function there to tell you who will be there. There are some brands missing from the database. Best to check the website of the brand you’re interested in directly.  Here are the basic logistical details for the main Miami Boat Show, from the show organizers:

Sunreef Yachts said this week it will have the 70 Sunreef Power catamaran SEA BASS at the upcoming Miami Yacht and Brokerage Show next month.  This will mark the yacht’s American premiere.  It was launched last May and made its public debut at the Cannes Boat Show. SEA BASS is currently operating a charter yacht in the Caribbean and will be available for charter in the Bahamas following the show, via Sunreef Yachts Charter.

The first boat in the 70 Sunreef Power series is the yacht JAMBO, which was built in an Expedition version (note the wave-piercing bows in photo below) for Laurent Bourgnon, the famous Swiss-born sailor and adventurer.  Bourgnon is currently in French Polynesia with his family on a five-year, round-the-world tour aboard JAMBO. He has outfitted the yacht with a high-efficiency drivetrain as well as wind generators and solar panels and calculates his range under power, at 8 knots, as 20,000 miles.

Sunreef Yachts builds an extensive line of luxury sailing and power catamarans. We wrote extensively about the company and its various yachts here on OceanLines.  We also have a nice photo gallery of some of Sunreef’s yachts here.

2009 Miami Boat Show and Strictly Sail Open Thursday

Sea Isle Marina Venue of the Miami Boat Show

Sea Isle Marina Venue of the Miami Boat Show

The latest editions of the Miami International Boat Show and Strictly Sail open tomorrow, Thursday, February 12, 2009 and run until Monday, February 16, at 6.p.m.   Show organizers are expecting more than 140,000 visitors to examine the boats, equipment and services on display by the more than 2,200 exhibitors.

The show covers three venues — The Miami Beach Convention Center, the Sea Isle Marina and Yachting Center and the Miamarina at Bayside Marketplace (Strictly Sail).  The Sea Isle Marina has the in-water powerboat displays and is right on the Miami waterfront; while the Bayside Marina hosts the sailboats of Strictly Sail.

An additional event, technically not part of MIBS, but considered by many visitors to be the “fourth venue” of the Miami show is the annual Miami Yacht and Brokerage Show, which occupies the docks along Collins Avenue in Miami Beach for a mile or more, with large yachts and superyachts on display.

Although the current economic climate has made for some disappointing results at recent boat shows, Miami (along with the Fort Lauderdale show in late October) is considered one of the 2 or 3 premier boat shows in the world, and manufacturers put on their best faces for the affair.

There will be a number of new products unveiled at the show, including new electronics from Raymarine, Furuno and Simrad; new engines and systems from Volvo Penta, Honda, Cummins, Northern Lights and John Deere.  The new Kadey-Krogen 55′ Expedition will make its first large-scale public appearance at the Sea Isle Marina.  The two innovative power catamarans from Leopard Catamarans will be on display as well as the Leopard sailing cats.

The news starts rolling out tonight and we’ll have it here on OceanLines before morning here in Miami.
