Northwest Trawlers 50 Sea Trials Underway

Northwest Trawlers NW 50 During Seatrials

Peter Whiting, co-founder of Northwest Trawlers reports in his blog that sea trials of the first NW 50 are continuing at Anacortes, Washington. Peter has some nice new photos of the boat, a couple of which we’ve reproduced here and he reports that testing of various systems, including the dual autopilot system aboard this boat, is moving forward. Another View of the NW 50 Trawler At Sea

Fully loaded, this NW 50 carries 1000 gallons of fuel, 300 gallons of water, and over 200 gallons of black and gray water. This represents about 11,000 pounds of fluids. Performance is still nearing 14 knots at full load. These pictures were taken at a more reasonable cruise speed of about 8-9 knots. Check out Peter’s NW Trawlers blog here.

Northwest Trawlers Launches First 50′ Passagemaker

Peter Whiting, co-founder of the Northwest Trawlers line reports that the Anacortes, Washington-based company has launched hull #1 of the NW50 series, a big sister to the original NW45. NW 5001 was launched in La Conner, Washington, and is now undergoing final commissioning work. As of this writing, the boat should be heading out for first sea trials. The boat’s hull was designed to accommodate both hull-speed cruising up to the mid-teens. We’l try to catch up with Peter in the next few days to get a report on the sea trials.

The NW50 is a big, strong boat with Kevlar in the forward hull sections and a tall, seaworthy bow with a Portuguese bridge to further protect the pilothouse. An articulated rudder and standard bow thruster make the NW50 more maneuverable in tight situations. The company says its designs are all about accommodating customers’ wishes in decor and outfitting. An example is the extra pilothouse port light just aft of the main pilothouse windows. The launch customer wanted the additional light and ventilation possibilities from this opening port light. Northwest Trawlers Adds 55 to Model Lineup

Northwest Trawlers Founder Peter Whiting has announced that his company is adding a new flagship to the company’s fleet — the NW 55. Designed by Steve Seaton, the NW 55 keeps the look of the Northwest 45 and 50, but adds a newer, more streamlined flybridge that will eventually make its way to the 45 and 50 as well.

The NW 55 has a basic 2-stateroom layout, with a queen berth athwartship in the forepeak and another queen athwartship in a mid-hull cabin. Northwest says the company is flexible about final configurations and is more than happy to work with clients to customize the layouts and finish.

The preliminary main deck layout has an L-shaped settee aft and to port in the salon, with free-standing chairs to starboard. The gourmet galley is forward, to port and features a pantry.

Northwest Trawlers Pilothouse Layout

Northwest says the 55 will come standard with a John Deere 6125, with 610 HP. A preliminary fuel load of 1,400 gallons should give the yacht a range of approximately 2,800 NM at 8 knots. The boat will hold 400 gallons of water and Whiting says preliminary specifications call for black and gray water tankage of about 200 gallons.

Northwest plans to have its debut model, the NW 45 at the U.S. Powerboat Show in Annapolis, beginning October 16.
